The design inspiration came from roly-poly toy, which makes the table organizer not only functional but also playful. Various needs were taken into consideration and fulfilled by the design:

  • organizing: pens, rulers, paper clips, elastic bands, sticky notes, phone, scissors, keys, photos etc.

  • categorization of pens

  • a place for pens in use — the mountain-shape pen holder

This project involved more advanced prototype making and I was introduced to basic machines for cutting wood. This is also one of the projects that I want to further pursue so that it becomes a fully developed product, potentially using casted mold to mass produce.

This is a hypothetic redesign for Swatch, which required me to design within "limitations" of the brand, in other words, to suit the aesthetics of the brand.

The modelling process challenged me to construct a model in 3d space and to render realistically in order to showcase the traits of the product.

In this project, I learnt to made a prototype, to cast a silicone mold to mass produce. Since the silicone replicates very little details of the prototype. I learnt, painfully though sanding, the importance of a perfect prototype in order to minimize finishing time for the replicas.

The design of the shape features:

  • multiple ways of gripping

  • a concave to suggest placement of thumb

  • streamlined contour to imply a sense of elegance

  • symmetrical shape to accommodate left and right handed

The Blush lamp encourages the user to interact with by playing with the curtain. The pull switch is intentionally chosen to reinforce user-interaction as well. Thanks to the light size of the product and the use of fabric, it gives a feeling of floating especially when there is a breeze.

the Triplets

Design and & Environmental Sustainability:

The Triplets is a perfect home for different kinds of  stationery. Aesthetically, I aim to create an unexpected sense so that the pen holder will stand out on the desk, and give the user curiosity to look at. Therefore, it would be visually pleasing to look at, and meanwhile versatile.

Ecologically, I intend to design a pen holder that is superior in quality and satisfies users’ needs. To further explore the environmental impact of the prototype, a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA, a technique to assess environmental impacts associated with all the stages of a product's life from raw material extraction through materials processing, manufacture, distribution, use, repair and maintenance) is performed.
